Nicholas Lee

Chief Executive and Head, Community & Youth Services Division

Nic is the Chief Executive at Trybe.

Nic holds a post-graduate degree in International Political Economy and has worked in public service and the finance sector before joining Trybe in 2005. He has played a crucial role in setting in place organisational systems, processes, and policies that govern the work of Trybe.

Under his leadership, Trybe attained the IPC status and became the managing agent of two institutions; Singapore Boys’ Hostel (2011-present) and Community Rehabilitation Centre (2014-2020). Trybe also launched new services; Chrysalis, GRYT, OASYS, and BES, focusing on individual intervention, rehabilitation, after-care, and reintegration support for the youth. In 2019, Nic also led the Company to put up an alternate report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Since his undergraduate years, Nic has dedicated a significant amount of his time serving the community—from volunteering with various grassroots bodies to joining the National Steering Committee on Youth Mentoring. He continues to be active in volunteering, and currently serves as a volunteer with New Life Community Services.

Driven by his desire to help young people improve their lives, Nic envisions a community that comes together to advocate for the youth—especially those who fall through the cracks. With the complex and ever-changing needs of young people in our society, Nic is committed to bridge the gaps in youth services and meet the emerging needs.

An inspiring mentor to many, Nic leads a team of zealous, dynamic and fun-loving professionals. In his free time, Nic likes to make home-cooked meals and enjoys nice conversations over coffee.

Befriending

Volunteers will engage the clients while participating in the scheduled events or programmes. Through the engagement, volunteers will establish rapport with the clients and serve as a positive influence to them. Volunteers may also plan activities for the clients.

Sports Coaching

Volunteers will be conducting structured coaching for Basketball, Soccer, Badminton, Table Tennis, Takraw, Dodge Ball, etc. Part of our intervention involves integrating our clients into a community group. Volunteers who are part of an external team are highly encouraged to assist with the integration of our clients into their teams.

Location: Within SBHL or at an external location

Requirements:

Day: Weekdays
Activity Frequency: Once a week
Activity Timing: After 3pm
Minimum commitment: 6 months or a minimum of 24 sessions.

Arts & Music Workshops

Volunteering Code: D-19-02

Volunteers will be conducting structured art, dance or music programmes. Part of our intervention involves integrating our clients into a community group. Volunteers who are part of an external team are highly encouraged to assist with the integration of our clients into their teams.

Exposure Programme

Volunteers will introduce the clients to new sports, hobbies or activities. This aims to introduce the youths to activities that could potentially capture their interests and eventually allow them to be meaningfully engaged.

Roger Koh

Head, Operations & Care Department – Singapore Boys’ Hostel

Roger ensures the smooth running of daily operations in the hostel. Having been in the Operations Department since he joined Trybe in 2011, Roger possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience required to oversee and execute the hostel’s various tasks and manage its facilities required while on the job. He works closely with his team to provide a safe and secure environment for the youth.

Roger enjoys the working culture in Trybe, especially the opportunities to work directly with the youth. He treasures the mentorship provided by his supervisors, which he in turn models in his interaction with the residents.

Roger looks forward to a cup of hot tea in his free time.

Ai Weig Ong

Head, Practice & Service Development Department

Ai Weig leads the Practice and Service Development Department of the organization. She focuses on establishing practice frameworks, professional training and clinical supervision. She believes that people development not only determines an organization’s success, but also impacts a youth’s success story. She advocates for the personal and professional growth of very single practitioner in Trybe.

Graduated in Social Work, Ai Weig went on to obtain her Masters degree in Counselling and in Art Therapy with the desire to integrate expressive methods in working with people. Prior to Trybe, she held other social work and art therapy positions in Family Service Centre, Youth Centre, Children’s home, Mental Health facility and Elderly nursing home. She previously served as Course Manager and Social Work lecturer in a Polytechnic. Compelled by the need for more senior workers in the sector, Ai Weig returned to direct practice and joined Trybe.

A natural artist, she enjoys crafting with leather, paper and wood. She is also charmed by quaint places.

Narasimman S/O Tivasiha Mani

Head, Rehabilitation & Reintegration

Narash leads the Rehabilitation & Reintegration Services to reach out to and support youth who have been discharged from rehabilitation institutions, providing them with the support to reintegrate into the community as well as to steer away from crime. Narash oversees the different projects under this service. One of it is Growing Resilient Youth in Transition (GRYT) which is a post-rehabilitation care service provided to youth offenders and probationers.

Narash serves the youth tirelessly and believes in the good of every single youth. He headed the Operations Department in the Singapore Boys’ Hostel before his move to oversee the Rehabilitation & Reintegration Services. Narash’s 15 years of experience working with youth has allowed him to handle the myriad of challenges that young people face today.

Prior to working at Trybe, Narash was a Submarine Corpsman with the Republic of Singapore Navy. Fueled by a burning passion of transformative work with young people and the rallying of communities that will help them succeed in life, Narash joined Trybe in 2013. Narash pursued a Degree in Psychology at Murdoch University so that he can further excel in his work with the youths and make a greater impact on their lives.

Amos Ng

Head, Outreach & Intervention Department

Amos is responsible for leading the development of holistic youth programmes and services provided by Trybe. These services include outreach and intervention for at-risk youth, and rehabilitation and reintegration for ex-offenders.

Amos is accredited by the Singapore Association of Social Workers as a Social Service Practitioner. Prior to joining Trybe, Amos worked with at-risk youth, conducted school-based social work, and ran leadership programmes as well as camps at TOUCH Youth (Leadership & Mentoring) for five years. He’s also a trained facilitator in Experiential Learning and led teams on overseas service-learning projects.

Amos’ passion to work with young offenders started in 2010, the year he joined Trybe. He has never looked back since. With more than five years of experience working in rehabilitation work with youth probationers in Trybe as the previous Head of the Singapore Boys’ Hostel, Amos has had opportunities to champion rehabilitation work and its approach in Trybe, roll out new initiatives and establish the institution’s processes and structure. He was also involved in the implementation of Restorative Practices into Trybe’s institutional rehabilitation approach, where it focuses on restoration of relationships and building accountability in our youth, to make them realise the consequence of their actions on others, as opposed to having a punitive approach.

Aside from the caring and trusting work environment, Amos feels that Trybe has a progressive culture championed by its leadership team. Trybe’s forward-looking vision challenges him to constantly expand his capabilities and hones his skills.

In his free time, Amos enjoys spending time with his family’s new addition, a baby girl, and his wife.

Jovita Tambayong

Acting Head, Human Resources Department

Jovita’s role includes Trybe’s human resource management and development. Before joining Trybe, she was an HR Consultant in a consultancy firm, specialising in psychometric tools and its application in organisations. Jovita has a Graduate Diploma in Business Management and a Certificate in Applied Psychology.

Having joined Trybe as a volunteer in her schooling years, Jovita found the experience fulfilling and fun. She started as a Project Manager at Trybe, conducting school programmes and leadership camps. Subsequently, she had the opportunity to work with the Life Coaches in Singapore Boys’ Hostel to do case management and liaising with the Probation Services. Serving alongside like-minded colleagues who work hard and play hard certainly helps Jovita to feel right at home in Trybe. A genuine and incredibly charming person, Jovita’s friends and colleagues describe her as “dependable” and a “teamplayer”.

A loving mother of two, Jovita loves spending her weekends with her children—exploring and playing outdoors and trying new food places.

Justin Loo

Head, Community Rehabilitation Centre

Justin graduated with an Honours Degree in Psychology, and was previously working in a special needs school for three years as a psychologist. Justin joined Trybe because he desires to impact the lives of the next generation and provide them guidance as they go through this life-changing transition from their teenage years into adulthood.

Through his experience, he discovered that Trybe is a company that advocates holistic development of not just its clients, but its staff as well. Justin believes that the best way to develop staff is to establish authentic relationships and that this is an environment in Trybe that allows Justin to thrive in.

Justin loves it when people just call him Jus.

Bee Lian Yeo

Head, Singapore Boys’ Hostel

Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science (Psychology) from Singapore Management University, Bee Lian worked at a Voluntary Welfare Organisation before joining Trybe in 2010.

Before becoming the head of the Singapore Boys’ Hostel (SBHL), where she oversees all aspects of the rehabilitation work for youth probationers, Bee Lian was the Head of the Trybe’s Community & Youth Services (CYS) Division. At CYS, she and her team worked at building young people’s capacities to lead and to serve the community, and reached out to youth-at-risk and young offenders.

With seven years of experience in the social service sector, her leadership has seen CYS grow from a single department to three.

Beely, as she is affectionately known to her friends, took on an internship at Trybe during her time as an undergraduate. The experience left an indelible impact on her. She was impressed by the staff, who demonstrated passion in working towards the common goal of “Every Youth a Success Story”.

Vimel Rajoo

Head, Strategy & Development Division

Vimel graduated with a Masters in Social Work and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration. Working at Trybe is Vimel’s first full-time job and he loves every minute of it.

As the Head of the Strategy and Development Division, Vimel assists the Chief Executive with developing, communicating and executing Trybe’s strategic initiatives. A key part of the division’s work includes directing the organisation to achieving its mission, and strengthening the organisation through business development and innovation. Vimel believes that there are many creative ways to grow an organisation and is excited to learn from other professionals. He welcomes collaboration and opportunities to share Trybe’s work with others.

Vimel knows that his passion lies in business development and finds his work in Trybe meaningful and satisfying. He credits his bosses and colleagues as important factors for his growth and success in the organisation. In addition, colleagues from different divisions do not hesitate to offer him support. Vimel believes that Trybe is a family that he can always rely on for help and advice.

Vimel is also Trybe’s Data Protection Officer and a Registered Social Worker-Provisional. An avid lover of food, Vimel believes that any bad day can be made right with some amazing buffet.

Cristela Yeo

Chief Secretary
Head, Corporate Services Division

As head of Corporate Services Division, Cristela’s role is critical to the effective functioning of Trybe. On top of running Corporate daily Services’ operations, she ensures that only the best candidates join the Trybe team. While managing employee relations and welfare is no easy tasks, Cristela’s cheerful disposition makes her the best person for the job. With an eye for detail and her warm personality, Cristela ensures that services in corporate governance, administration, finance, human resources and IT are delivered to all of Trybe’s stakeholders in the highest of quality.

Cristela is also known as Cris to her colleagues. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and majored in Accounting. Her extensive experience in office administration and as a personal assistant to high net worth individuals before joining Trybe has equipped her with valuable skills to deal with the day-to-day running of the offices and to keep them shipshape.

Cristela’s “good morning” greetings never fails to brighten anyone’s day.

Esther Chen

Head, Casework & Counselling – Singapore Boys’ Hostel

Esther leads a team of youth workers who guide the residents at Singapore Boys’ Hostel (SBHL). She believes that the issues of at-risk youth are complex and ever-changing. As the Head of Casework & Counselling at SBHL, Esther ensures that her team remains highly competent and updated with relevant skills to support the demands of Trybe youth clients.

Esther graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from NUS. Having always been intrigued by the behaviours of children and young persons, she finds herself amused just by witnessing their lively and expressive interactions. Prior to joining Trybe, she has worked with children at a Family Service Centre, Child Protection Specialist Centre and those affected by cancer.

She is passionate about food and enjoys cooking. She also loves the outdoors and hiking. On her free time, you’ll find her reading or snuggling with her cat.

Video Production

Volunteering Code: S-19-01

Volunteers will assist the Company in the production of its videos. This involves content creation, video recording, editing and publishing. Videos will be used to showcase the work of Trybe and also feature success stories of the clients and staff. Equipment will be provided though volunteers may choose to use their personal equipment.

MarComs Intern (Marketing / Media / Communications)

MarComs Interns (Marketing / Media / Communications)

Individuals who are passionate about marketing, content creation and engaging the public are welcome to intern with us. MarComs interns will have the opportunity to help Trybe increase its brand awareness and reach, and share about the work that Trybe does through its social media platforms and marketing materials. Interns who are creative, skilled in design and video editing will be able to contribute to Trybe’s publicity materials and videos. Through the internship, the interns will learn more about the youths Trybe serves and be their voice to the public.

MarComs Interns are expected to possess basic graphic design, video editing or mass communication knowledge or skills. They are expected to be flexible, team player and ready to operate with deadlines.

Social Service Interns (Social Work / Counsellor / Youth Work)

Individuals who are keen to have a hands on experience working with youths facing adversities are strongly recommended to come onboard as our Social Service Interns. They will have an opportunity to engage the clients directly, gain a deeper understanding of their struggles, and be equipped to contribute to the social sectors. Interns will be assigned a Social Worker who supports them in their learning and development, and journey with them through their internship period.

Social Service Interns are expected to possess basic knowledge in either social work, counselling or youth engagement. They are also expected to have good character and willing to learn and take on new challenges.

Corporate Functions Interns (General Admin / Finance / IT)

Individuals who are interested to learn the corporate roles required in a social service agencies are highly encouraged to consider the Corporate Function internship. Through the programme, interns will be exposed to activities that consolidate critical company-wide support services, provided based on specialized knowledge, best practices, and technology to serve the staff team and at times, external stakeholders.

Interns supporting this function should have good knowledge and skills in general administration, finance and IT functions. Interns will play a supportive role to the different staff performing the specialized roles and will be at time, required to support other functions in the Company.

Michele Mahendran

Head, Operations and Coaching Department – Community Rehabilitation Centre

As the Head of Operations and Coaching Department, Michele ensures that the Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) runs smoothly. She also coaches young male drug offenders through their rehabilitation journey at the centre.

Michele’s professional experience at NuLife Counselling Centre, where she worked with families, sparked her interest in working with the youth. Her personal belief is that every youth is special. Michele feels strongly about helping young people turn their lives around and reach their fullest potential.

Michele is a motivated individual. Fondly referred to as Mich, she enjoys the company of the CRC residents and her colleagues. Mich enjoys romantic comedies and indulging in cakes.

Joel Goh

Head, Programmes Department – Community Rehabilitation Centre

Joel heads the Programmes Department, which develops and implements programmes for the Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC). He ensures that every programme that the youth go through aids in the development of their personal skills , family relationships, social skills, career and educational pathways, as to enable them to rehabilitate and reintegrate into their families and the community.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management from Murdoch University as well as a Masters in Counselling from Monash University. Joel is also a certified DISC facilitator (a behavior assessment tool) and attended the Motivators Certified Training course.

Joel began his journey with Trybe as an intern where he discovered his passion in working with youth and empowering them to reach their dreams. Prior to his transfer to CRC, Joel was key in leading the Training and Development Department at the Community & Youth Services in developing secondary and tertiary students’ leadership and socio-emotional skills. He was also involved in developing Trybe’s Time-Out Programme, training the Young Change Makers panelists from the National Youth Council, heading multi-tiered leadership programmes, and serving as a mentor to residents of the Singapore Boys’ Home.

Jeremy Tan

Head, Programmes & Rehabilitation Department – Singapore Boys’ Hostel

Since joining Trybe in 2014, Jeremy has been involved in coaching and mentoring the hostel youth. He leads a team of youth workers. Together, they look into the development of programmes that engage the youth constructively and aid in their effective reintegration into their families and the community.

Jeremy has always been interested in working with youth and he has seized the opportunity to do so in Trybe. He values Trybe’s culture of honesty and care, and appreciates the development opportunities the organisation has given its staff. Jeremy credits his growth to his supervisors’ mentoring and the exposure and training afforded to him from them since joining Trybe.

In his downtime, Jeremy enjoys a cup of Milo.

Maya Salvador

Head, Finance Department– Corporate Services Division

Maya leads the Finance team in overseeing the preparation of financial and management reports, ensuring that payroll is timely executed, and that audit and budget exercises are followed through, among many other tasks. On top of these responsibilities, Maya also ensures Trybe’s compliance to internal policies, controls and procedures.

Maya graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Accounting and Accountancy. Before her stint in Trybe, Maya was providing management consultancy services to a multinational company based in the Philippines for seven years and was an accountant for a training and management consultancy firm in Singapore.

Maya chose to work in Trybe because of her desire to serve the children and youth. She believes that the best investment is the one spent on equipping the next generation of young people.

During her leisure time, Maya enjoys the outdoors and good music.

Elyna Wee

Head, Human Resources Department– Corporate Services Division

Elyna’s main responsibility is to oversee areas ranging from recruitment of staff, staff welfare and benefits, to Human Resource (HR) development which includes training, performance appraisal and career planning. She graduated with an Honours Degree in Materials Engineering and a Graduate Diploma in Training and Development.

Since she started her career, Elyna has been championing the development of people. Her achievements include overseeing performance management exercises for non-managerial staff, administering training programmes, supervising external and internal scholarships, leading orientation programmes for new employees, and spearheading various HR events. Evidently, seeing people excel in their careers brings much joy to Elyna.

Prior to joining Trybe, Elyna was in China for five years with her husband who was posted there for work. She found the experience to be humbling as it presented a different side of China and through these experiences, she learnt to be grateful for the little things. Elyna is convinced that giving back to the society is not a want but a necessity. She aspires to build a strong HR and people centric culture in Trybe so that more talent can be attracted to the social service sector.

Amos Kang

Head, Training and Development Department – Community & Youth Services Division

Amos is responsible for various tasks ranging from partnering with community agencies for programmes and service-learning, to mentoring staff involved in Youth Corps Singapore. He has a Diploma in Visual Communication and has worked in an advertising company before joining Trybe.

Amos is passionate about nurturing and guiding the next generation, choosing to do so through social work and counselling the young. In Trybe, he discovered that work can be fun, enriching ,and developmental as well. Amos dedicates a lot of his time to developing and stretching volunteers’ capacities. His dedication and love for the them is evident in the way they call him “Papa Amos” lovingly.

Amos demands to be called Ah Moose by his friends.

Rushell Ronda

Head, Casework & Counselling Department – Community Rehabilitation Centre

Rushell heads the Casework and Counselling Department at the Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC)–a drug rehabilitation centre for first-time, male, drug offenders aged 16 to 21 years old. Her role involves providing casework supervision to her team, analysing cases and developing the appropriate intervention strategies, to ensure that every youth receives the best support that they need for rehabilitation.

Rushell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work at Saint Louis University. She is a registered social worker with Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) and is certified in Supervision for the Social Services and Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS). Rushell believes that a mentor plays an influential role in a young person’s life and coupled with restorative coaching, meaningful and engaging activities, these will help lead the youth to the right path.

During her leisure time, Rushell can be found hiking the trails of Bukit Timah Nature Reserves and the Malaysian mountains with her friends or just chilling over a cup of kopi-c.

Inez Hong

Head, Outreach & Intervention Services – Community & Youth Services Division

Inez, who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, is passionate about her job and enjoys one-to-one interactions with the youth she works with. Through the time spent with them, she has realised there is a need for every young person to have someone who believes in them and inspires them towards greatness.

Helping them discover their potential and realise that each and every one of them are destined for excellence motivates her work.

Her work entails working with youth facing adversities, overseeing the programmes that Community & Youth Services Division (CYS) carry out to serve them, and supporting the staff under her supervision.

Inez’s secret to unwinding and de-stressing is savouring a cup of bubble tea and making hand-made cards to appreciate the people around her.

Chief Executive

Nicholas’ job as the Chief Executive of Trybe involves overseeing its various divisions. Unafraid to make things right, Nicholas ensures the work at Trybe is meaningful and down-to-earth. Nicholas holds a post-graduate degree in International Political Economy and worked in public service and the finance sector before joining Trybe.

When Nicholas first started volunteering, he enjoyed it so thoroughly and never thought of it as time wasted. He realised that volunteering is more than ‘just for fun’ and feels it is a privilege to walk alongside youth in their victories and help them to learn from their mistakes. What keeps him going is when he sees young people who have benefited from the programmes in Trybe keep coming back to contribute so that others will also be inspired to do the same.

The staff at Trybe affectionately call him Nic and everyone knows that he likes his coffee and teh-c.

Andrew Khoo

Head, Programmes Department – Community Rehabilitation Centre Division

Andrew heads the Programmes Department at the Community Rehabilitation Centre to develop, plan and lead programmes for the first time young drug offenders. He takes great pride in ensuring that every programme that the young drug offenders go through, aids in their personal skills, family relationship, social skills, career and educational pathway. A practitioner armed with the knowledge of evidenced-based models, Andrew looks forward to bring to life, the future plans of therapeutic group work, family work and resident engagement beyond the youths’ discharge from the Community Rehabilitation Centre.

Andrew holds a Bachelor degree in Psychological Science and Business (Marketing) and also pursued a Masters in Counselling. Andrew truly resonates with the vision of Trybe – Every Youth A Success Story. An active Instagrammer going by the handle drewkhoo, Andrew cherishes the opportunities to be an influential part of the lives of the youths

Glendon Wee

Head, Programmes & Rehabilitation Department – Singapore Boys’ Hostel

As part of his job, Glendon heads the Programmes & Rehabilitation team at the Singapore Boys’ Hostel by providing strategic direction on how to grow the youths through coaching and mentoring. He and his team develop and source for programmes that are integral for the rehabilitation of the residents in the Singapore Boys’ Hostel. Passionate about collaboration with both the private and public sector, Glendon believes that volunteers and corporate companies can make a difference to the youths’ lives.

Glendon took a gap year and found his purpose at the workplace when he went for a humanitarian trip to Cambodia to reach out to the underprivileged children in the villages. It was during that trip when he realized that giving back to the community is something that he values. Thereafter, he chanced upon Trybe and leaped at the opportunity to serve the youths in our local context.
