Trybe has offered me an opportunity to experience what it is like to be working in the social service sector. I have learnt how to communicate better and to empathize with the youths under our care as well as how to better facilitate workshops and programmes that develop the youths positively.
I value the time that I had with the residents of the Singapore Boys’ Hostel. It was an absolute privilege because I was able to apply what I learnt in school, to this internship. My colleagues also supported and guided me when I had to facilitate and engage the residents in the various programmes.
I’ve gained a better insight into the social service sector and I now aspire to work towards a social worker career path. This experience has humbled me and changed my myopic perspective of the challenges I face. I want to devote my life towards the betterment of others.
